Health and Wellbeing is key to prosperity.
As an organisation we are highly focused on ensuring the health and wellbeing of our communities, reducing isolation and tackling mental health. From running a special LGBTQ+ meeting space, to distributing tens of thousands of pounds through the Household Support Fund, to being a community champion during the covid pandemic, our team is ready to support in the delivery of projects that support all of our communities. Below are a few examples of projects that are current and from the past.

Age Friendly Radio
Communities Together and Radio Sangam have a long-standing record of promoting community cohesion, health awareness, social inclusion and wellbeing across Kirklees.
Building on nearly two decades of community broadcasting and engagement, the proposed Age Friendly Radio Initiative will create a dedicated community media platform designed by older people and for older people.
The initiative aims to reduce loneliness, improve access to health information, increase participation in community life and strengthen social prescribing pathways across Kirklees.
The programme will use trusted community radio, podcasts, outreach sessions and volunteer-led broadcasting to reach older residents, particularly those who are digitally excluded, socially isolated or living with long-term health conditions.
Community Champions
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Communities Together and Radio Sangam played a vital role in supporting communities across Kirklees by acting as trusted sources of information, connection and reassurance during a time of unprecedented uncertainty. Through multilingual radio broadcasts, community outreach and partnership working, we helped disseminate essential public health guidance, vaccination information and NHS updates to diverse communities, ensuring that accurate and culturally appropriate messages reached those most at risk of exclusion. The organisation worked closely with local authorities, health partners and voluntary sector organisations to signpost residents to food provision, welfare support, mental health services and community resources. Radio Sangam's presenters and volunteers provided regular wellbeing programmes, community discussions and call-in shows that helped reduce loneliness and social isolation during lockdowns, while also amplifying the voices of local residents, key workers and community champions. By combining trusted community relationships with accessible communication channels, Communities Together helped keep people informed, connected and supported throughout the pandemic, strengthening community resilience and cohesion across Kirklees.
